PROJECT IN PROGRESS:
Particular consideration was given to preserving the environment when building this timber-frame/square log seasonal residence, nestled in the woods on Paudash Lake. The log package was supplied by Eco Log Concepts, using sustainable forestry methods in the Haliburton Forest. An ICF foundation and solar panels also contribute to this homes sustainability. A continuing labour of love, finishing work will be done over time by the owner, friends & family.
CUSTOM FURNITURE
These two custom projects were created for our clients a Mission-style outdoor table and benches for the whole family to enjoy at the cottage, and a work table for an artists studio.
Chandos Lake Woodland
This fairy cottage was one of two original cabins on a large lot that we renovated for the owners use before and during the construction of their larger cottage. Hidden in the woods, with a unique design and feeling, they were a perfect opportunity to use some creative finishes inside and out to blend with the natural elements.
Their modified Viceroy retreat fully complements its wooded location on Chandos Lake. A vaulted ceiling in the great room allows fabulous views from the floor-to-ceiling windows & sleeping loft.
Sunspace 4-track windows were later added to the screened porch for 4-season enjoyment.
THREE COMMERCIAL PROJECTS
On the first 2, Don collaborated with others to give community buildings a new life. The handsome law office was once a much smaller floral shop and restaurant, and the new 190-seat Village Playhouse used to serve Bancroft as a jail, and then a courthouse.
The third photo shows a renovated coach house that now offers the artist-owner a chance to create and retail her work in Prince Edward County.

A MORE EFFICIENT AND BETTER DESIGNED HEAT SOURCE
During a larger renovation, this inefficient fireplace was replaced by an airtight insert, giving the owners much more comfort and enjoyment. The brick hearth was covered by slate tile and the rest of the brick was removed and replaced with cultured stone and drywall. Custom bookcases add charm and storage to the room.
OUTDOOR LIVING
This old deck was in bad repair, but we replaced it with a much more beautiful, useful and enjoyable one. At the other end of the same cottage, a new screened porch with Sunspace windows was added for a quiet 3-season escape from the weather and bugs.
"Don, we have just finished the interior of the screen porch that you built for us and are so very pleased with the result. You have now completed 3 projects for us and each was handled professionally and completed within the expected budget and time frame. This is no mean feat in your business. Your staff and subtrades were marvellous. All in all an excellent working relationship that we value greatly we'll be back to you again."

DRAMATIC MAKEOVER
This rental property was in fine shape structurally, but needed a creative makeover to increase its appeal. The existing cupboards were painted & new hardware added, the counters were replaced & the island portion re-used as a breakfast counter. The badly worn commercial carpet was replaced with resilient laminate flooring, the entire space was painted in modern, relaxing colours, new ceiling fixtures installed, and blinds & drapes added for privacy & to soften the space. These changes were economical, but the difference is dramatic.
HISTORIC RESTORATION
This Prince Edward County farmhouse was in such poor shape structurally that it seemed like demolition was the only solution. But with careful planning, this historic home with fabulous views of the Bay of Quinte was transformed into a comfortable home with a combination of original and modern design and materials. Work was done from the foundation to the roof, rooms were opened up and reconfigured, huge windows were added to the front (not shown) to embrace the view, and the owners were rewarded with a showcase home to enjoy for decades to come.
"Check our references; ask to see the work that we've done in the area; visit a current job site to meet the crew and see how they work as a team."
