After living in the Bancroft area for over 40 years, we'll soon be taking up temporary residence in Burleigh Falls. We've spent 18 years renovating, upgrading, improving and enjoying our beautiful vintage house in Bancroft, and are finishing up the projects and putting it on the market.
We'll be renting (a unique experience for us after 45 years of home ownership) a wonderful house nestled on acreage in the woods, with a huge screened porch for nature-watching, space for working on those neglected personal projects, lots of room indoors and out for family and friends to visit. We plan to spend more time relaxing, enjoying some of the outdoor activities, interesting places, and exciting experiences ahead of us. Meanwhile, we'll be looking for a special piece of property to build a wee house for our future.
We are looking forward to exploring more of Stoney Lake, living so close to our boat docking at Burleigh Falls Marina, as well as the many other waterways and parks nearby and further away. We've bought 2 kayaks, will have great hikes out our back door, and are quite a bit closer to our family and the fun activities, restaurants, bike paths, arts and culture of Lakefield, Peterborough and beyond.
After more than 25 years in business, Don Koppin General Contractor will finish up our last project, another off-grid home, sometime in the next couple of months, and we'll be closing the book on this memorable chapter in our lives.
Don took on a second business commitment over 2 years ago, with Kawartha Lakes Construction in Lakefield, initially to help a colleague with some of his backlog of estimating work, but that work has gradually blossomed into a permanent position there as a Project Developer, and he's enjoying it immensely. The daily commute, and maintaining two full-time businesses has been stressful, time-consuming, and is just no longer viable, so it's time for this change. Our building at 57 Cleak Avenue will be for sale too.
Kawartha Lakes Construction is an influential, well-known builder/renovator, whose consistent quality has earned them many area building awards. This month, at the Peterborough and Kawartha Homebuilders Association Awards ceremonies, they won 5 prestigious awards - one of them, for Best Commercial Project of the Year, was awarded for an historical reconstruction project that Don coordinated last year- the Juniper Island Store on Stoney Lake. The other, Renovator of the Year, included 2 of Don's other projects. He plans to continue to work on equally challenging and rewarding projects for a few years yet.
So many people have enriched our lives in this place we call home: raising our kids and seeing them off to new horizons, working for many valued clients (some of whom have become friends), being involved in our community and local politics, belonging to clubs, activities, associations, contributing to local projects and initiatives. We've enjoyed it all, grown as human beings because of what this rural community has given us, and will cherish our memories as we travel down a different road.
We have both been involved in so many rewarding personal and business projects, groups and events here over the decades - the Bancroft Theatre Guild, the Village Playhouse, the Bancroft and District Real Estate Board, the Art Gallery of Bancroft, the Haliburton Homebuilders Association, Sustainable Bancroft, the Algonquin Arts Council, the Bancroft Hiking Club, Downtown Revitalization, the Bancroft Train Station Restoration Project, the Town of Bancroft Council, the Bancroft Public Library, the proposed Living & Wellness Centre, Maid to Order Catering, Paudash Shores Cottage Resort & Divine Discoveries, as well as the different stages of carpentry and renovation enterprises that eventually led to the creation of Don Koppin General Contractor over 20 years ago.
We are forever grateful to our many loyal customers who have trusted us over the years to help them with their building and renovating wants and needs. There have been so many rewarding projects: an eco-log retreat, off-grid retirement homes, challenging large and small scale renovations, kitchen and bathroom remodelling, porches and decks, demolitions, additions and expansions, repairs and mould remediations, commercial projects, cottages, retirement homes, as well as energy-loss assessments and advice.
Two of our trusted lead carpenters, Craig Bolduc & Ralph Mueller, will be venturing out on their own to be of service to area residents and cottagers with their renovation projects. We'll be posting more detailed information about that later, and hope that our past clients and others interested in quality work, will consider hiring these valued members of our crew, who have contributed, along with our other team members over the past 2 decades, to make our company, and our projects, successful, rewarding and celebrated; providing outstanding quality, reliable service and constant commitment to excellence.
We'll be less than an hour away, so we intend to see our friends and colleagues often, while building new relationships, exploring new experiences, writing another exciting chapter in our lives. Thank you to everyone who has made these past 2 decades in business here more than just a job - it's been a profession chosen for the love of creating beautiful spaces, grown from the need to foster professional excellence, and ending with a different path in the same direction.
